Tips for Buying the Perfect Mattress |
|||
Bandy Bedding believes that buying the right mattress set for all ages is as an important health issue as eating and exercising properly. The correct bed can increase the average sleeping time up to 1-hour. After all, your goal is quality sleeping. |

1. Be sure to purchase the correct size for a couple. The full size or standard (as sometimes called) is 54” wide and the width of two baby bed mattresses. This is not adequate amount of space for two adults to sleep comfortably without disturbing each other. Queen size (60” x 80”) is presently the most popular size of bedding because of size and price. A King size (76” x 80”) will make significant improvements for a couple in their quality of sleep. 2. A major question that is asked of a salesperson is “How do I know the bed will be comfortable over the entire night?” Well…you will spend only a short time sitting and lying on the bed in the store. This is an excellent question; however a salesperson unfortunately cannot answer this question. Only YOU can determine this. 3. Try to bring your sleeping partner with you so both of you can select the perfect mattress. 4. Try the bed by lying in the position you normally go to sleep in. 5. Try several different firmnesses. 6. If you have a back or spine problem, you need to express this to the salesperson. Certain coil systems or all foam systems can be recommended for this condition. 7. Every 6-9 years you should replace your primary bed. This rule has evolved and recommended by the bedding industry because the original support and quality will deteriorate within this time. If the bed is abused or has excessive usage, it may be good to replace it within 5 years. 8. Another question we often get is “Does a high priced bed give you a better sleeping quality?” This is not necessarily so. Please remember the reality is that comfort is an individual perception. A soft expensive mattress may be uncomfortable if you like a firm mattress. Do not buy a bed because of the label or brand. Bedding designs have changed over the years within the same brand name. 9. Decide what you want in a bed set…either a no coil system, air bed, adjustable bed, or a coil system. Narrow your bed selection down to 3 sets and try each bed for 5-10 minutes each. Do not make a hasty decision. 10. Buy from a store that can offer follow-up services. 11. Ask your salesperson about height because newer mattress sets are much thicker. Low profile support is available for the box or frame. 12. If changing size of bedding from a full to queen using your existing headboard, footboard, and frame…remember queen sets require center support to the floor. Wooden slats are not recommended for mattress sets designed today. We have appropriate metal systems that are designed for todays beds. 13. Remember your pillow! Although you have purchased a new bed set, if you do not use a pillow that adequately supports your neck, then your mattress may not perform the way you want it to. 14. Remember if you have been sleeping on an inferior set that has lost its support, it may take you 3-4 nights to get your spine back in alignment. *I hope I have provided you with some thoughts when shopping for your next bed set I hope we can help you to locate a set that will give you the best night sleep you have had in years.
